South Pasadena Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital on Main Street in Alhambra. With in-house diagnostics, surgery capabilities, dental care, and treatment for dogs, cats, and exotic pets — your pet can receive comprehensive care all under one roof. No referrals, no runaround.
Our in-house laboratory means bloodwork and diagnostic results are available the same day — often within minutes. No waiting days for outside lab results when your pet needs answers now.
From spay/neuter and soft tissue surgery to full dental cleanings with extractions, we handle it all in-house. Your pet gets consistent care from a team that already knows their history.
Unlike many animal hospitals, we treat a wide range of species — dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and other small mammals. One hospital for your entire family of pets.
Led by Dr. Sylvia Chiang and Dr. Gina Navia, we are not a corporate chain. Our team builds lasting relationships with every family and provides care that is personal, thorough, and transparent.

Dogs and cats make up the majority of the patients we see every day. Whether it's a routine wellness visit, a sick day, or a procedure, we've built our hospital to give them — and you — a calm, thorough experience.
Wellness & preventive care. Annual exams are the cornerstone of keeping your dog or cat healthy long-term. We check weight trends, heart and lung sounds, teeth, eyes, skin condition, and joint mobility — building a baseline so we catch changes early. We'll also review vaccine status and recommend any core or lifestyle vaccines that are due.
Dental care. By age three, most dogs and cats have some level of dental disease — and most of them aren't showing obvious signs. Our dental cleanings include full scaling, polishing, and a tooth-by-tooth examination under anesthesia. If extractions are needed, we handle those in-house too. Dental disease is one of the most undertreated conditions in pets, and it directly affects heart, kidney, and liver health.
Diagnostics & bloodwork. Our in-house lab gives us CBC and chemistry results the same day — often within 20 minutes. For dogs and cats showing any signs of illness, or for senior pets needing a baseline panel, this means faster answers and faster treatment. We also have digital X-ray for imaging concerns.
Surgery. We perform soft tissue procedures including spay/neuter, mass removals, and other common surgeries entirely in-house, with dedicated anesthesia monitoring throughout. Your dog or cat stays with a team that already knows them — not a facility they've never been to.
Senior dog & cat care. Pets over seven need more frequent attention. We recommend twice-yearly exams for senior dogs and cats, with bloodwork at least annually. Early detection of kidney disease, diabetes, arthritis, and dental infections changes outcomes significantly — and we'd rather catch things at stage two than stage four.
Walking into a new animal hospital can feel overwhelming, but at South Pasadena Animal Hospital, we make sure every first visit starts with a warm, stress-free welcome. Our front desk team will greet you and your pet by name and help you get settled while we review any medical records you've brought along.
Your veterinarian will then conduct a thorough nose-to-tail physical examination, taking the time to check your pet's weight, heart, lungs, teeth, skin, and overall condition. We'll discuss your pet's medical history, diet, behavior, and lifestyle so we can build a personalized care plan that fits both your pet's needs and your budget.
Whether you're bringing in a puppy for their first vaccinations, a senior cat for a checkup, or a bearded dragon for a wellness exam, our team treats every animal with patience and genuine compassion. Before you leave, we'll walk you through our recommendations, answer every question, and make sure you feel confident about the next steps.
